MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The WikiLeaks whistleblowing website stated Thursday that it has gathered 74 percent of its aimed $150,000 reward for disclosure of the Trans-Pacific Partnership Agreement (TPP) trade deal and 83 percent out of the goal $109,700 prize for a whistleblower of Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP).
WikiLeaks started its crowd-sourcing campaign for the TPP on June 2 and for the TTIP on August 11.
According to the organization’s website, over 2,500 have pledged for the TTIP reward so far and just under 2,000 donated for the TPP details to be disclosed to the public. According to WikiLeaks, some of the pledges were made by high-profile activists.
According to WikiLeaks website, the TTIP aims to create a global economic bloc outside of the WTO framework, as part of a geopolitical economic strategy against the BRICS countries of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa.
The TPP is a controversial trade pact, conceived with the aim of boosting trade and investment among 12 Pacific Rim countries, including the United States, Australia, Canada and Japan, among others. Although the document has never been officially made public, WikiLeaks, known for publishing classified information on its website, has managed to leak three of the 29 chapters of the deal.
