MOSCOW (Sputnik) — The protest ban will come into force at 2 p.m. local time (12:00 GMT) on Friday and remain in place across the entire town until 6 a.m. Monday, the county council said in a statement late Thursday.
A refugee-welcoming ceremony that had been scheduled for Friday afternoon was cancelled as well.
"The reason is the police emergency since the available police forces are not able to address the forecast situation developments," the county council explained.
On Saturday and Sunday, a group of suspected neo-Nazis clashed with police forces, protesting the opening of the new refugee shelter in Heidenau, injuring more than 30 police officers.
On August 19, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere said up to 800,000 asylum seekers and refugees are expected to arrive in the country by the end of the year, four times as many as in 2014.
