MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Interior and transport ministers from nine EU countries are set to meet in Paris on Saturday afternoon after a failed gun attack on a train going from the Netherlands to France, according to the French Interior Ministry.
Paris raised concerns about insufficient security controls on trains traveling across EU nations’ borders after an armed gunman was able to board a high-speed train in Amsterdam last week. He was overpowered by passengers and handed over to security forces.
On August 21, 26-year-old Moroccan national Ayoub Khazzani opened fire on Thalys train passengers, injuring three people. The gunman claimed he had intended to rob passengers because he was hungry, but French investigators suspect the attack was inspired by jihadists.
