DUBAI (Sputnik) — A car bomb has detonated in the Yemeni rebel-captured capital of Sanaa, near the evacuated US embassy, local media reported.
A powerful explosion occurred Saturday near a mosque in northeastern Sanaa close to an US checkpoint, the Bahraini Al-Wasat newspaper reported, citing local sources.
No casualties have yet been reported.
According to the newspaper, no terrorist groups have claimed responsibility for the blast.
Yemen is engulfed in an armed conflict between Houthi militants, the country’s main opposition faction, and government forces.
Al-Qaeda in the Arab Peninsula and ISIL jihadist group have taken advantage of the situation to strengthen their hold in Yemen.
