WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – A spokesperson with the US Air Forces in Europe-Air Forces Africa confirmed with Stars and Stripes that the F-22 Raptors had arrived at the Lask Air Base in Poland on Monday.
The F-22’s arrival in Poland comes after four of the tactical fighter jets were deployed to the Spangdahlem Air Base in Germany to begin training exercises, the US Air Force announced last week.
The deployment of the advanced aircraft is part of the European Reassurance Initiative to increase security between NATO allies and partners in response to what US defense officials have characterized a "Russian threat."
F-22 Raptors are the only fifth generation fighter jets in the world which are fully operational, according to aircraft manufacturer Lockheed Martin. The jet includes advanced stealth technology and highly-integrated computer systems.
