WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Iran and the P5+1 group of countries — China, France, Russia, the United Kingdom, the United States and Germany – announced a final comprehensive agreement on Tehran's nuclear program in exchange for sanctions' relief on July 14.
“Secretary Kerry will travel to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania on September 2 to deliver a speech about the importance to our national security of the Iran nuclear deal,” Toner said.
Kerry will also reassert that the deal makes the entire Middle East region safer by blocking pathways for Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon, Toner added.
The agreement has been attacked by Israel and many Republican members of the US Congress.
Under US law, Congress has until September 17 to fully review the final nuclear deal with Iran and pass or reject it. Obama has vowed to veto any resolution against the deal. To overcome a presidential veto both chambers of Congress are required to get a two-thirds majority vote.
