A road accident involving five members of the OSCE Special Monitoring Mission (SMM) to Ukraine occurred Monday near the east Ukrainian town of Artemivsk, Ukrainian police said.

KIEV (Sputnik) — The van carrying SMM monitors collided with a Skoda Oktavia while going from Artemivsk, 55 miles away from regional capital Donetsk, to the town of Sodelar.

"The car accident took place at 17:40 on the road Tanyushenka-Starobilsk-Artemivsk," police said in a statement. "The driver of Gazel [van] carrying five OSCE mission representatives, attempted an overtaking maneuver and turned into the opposite lane without assessing the situation properly when he collided with a Skoda Oktavia."

Neither the drivers nor passengers were hurt in both cars involved, the statement said. The investigation continues.

The OSCE mission was deployed to Ukraine in 2014 at Kiev's request. It has been tasked with monitoring the situation in southeastern Ukraine, which remains tense, as both pro-Kiev troops and Donbass militias continue to fight there despite the February peace agreement.
