The real-world experience of a veteran Arizona police officer who reportedly killed six people during the course of his 13-year career is important to the marketing of a firearms training simulator internationally, the CEO of the company VirTra Systems, which sells the system, told Sputnik in a statement.

WASHINGTON (Sputnik) – On Saturday, media reported that former Scottsdale police officer James Peters had killed six people over the course of his 12-year policing career. Yet within one month of retirement, Peters was hired by VirTra Systems to help sell their V-300 firearm training simulator.

Bob Ferris, the CEO of VirTra Systems, told Sputnik that Peters, who was hired three years ago to focus on international sales, “is a highly-decorated former officer with extensive training and expertise which is critical to his role in supporting VirTra’s efforts worldwide.”

He added that the police officer’s 12 years of law enforcement experience “provides him a unique perspective on the real-world, split-second life-and-death situations police officers face on a daily basis.”

The company’s website describes the simulator as a “realistic and intense simulation training [that] results in better life-or-death decision making, saving both civilian and officer lives.” The training system’s audio, visual and sensory functions means “adrenal is felt during training,” the company’s website states. There are law enforcement and military versions of the simulators with various traits.

Ferris explained Peters is primarily responsible for demonstrating and selling the simulator globally, and does not participate in police training.

The Scottsdale police department did not respond to Sputnik’s inquiries for comment.
