Israeli visitors to the concentration camp's museum were "shocked" to find mist showers placed at the entrance to the camp, as many who saw them found it hard to miss the gas chamber connotation.

Poland Respects Soviet Soldiers Who Liberated Auschwitz-Birkenau Death Camp
Israeli tourists visiting the Auschwitz death camp museum in Poland on Sunday were shocked to discover mist showers placed near the entrance to the facility to beat the heat.

"As soon as I got off the bus I walked into the shower contraption," said Meyer Bolka, an Israeli visiting the museum.

"I was in shock. I walked up to the reception and asked the worker there about the showers, she said it was a hot day. I told her: 'With all due respect it reminds me of the gas chambers,' she told me she was very sorry," Bolka told the online English-language Israeli news website Ynetnews.

According to Bolka, Israeli youths who were visiting the museum used the mist showers to cool down, but the placement of the contraptions raised anger among the older visitors.

The Auschwitz museum management responded by saying that they did not mean to hurt visitors’ feelings, they only wanted to make their visit more pleasant on one of the hottest days of the year, Ynetnews reported.

The museum also said it would consider removing the sprinklers to avoid further complaints.
