The Greek economy is a minor problem for the EU compared to the migration crisis that Europe is currently dealing with, the vice-chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Hungarian National Assembly told Sputnik Tuesday.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova — Europe is experiencing a massive migration crisis, as thousands of people attempt to cross into the bloc, fleeing violence in their home countries in the Middle East and North Africa.

“I think the problem of Greece and the problem of Eurozone is an enormous problem, but it is minor compared to this [migration crisis in Europe],” Marton Gyongyosi said.

He underlined that the migration crisis that the European Union was grappling with has way too many aspects, including the demographic, social, medical, financial and economic consequences.

“If we cannot integrate these people in Europe it is going to be a huge social burden sooner or later,” Gyongyosi said.

Merkel: Migrant Crisis Challenges Very Existence of Schengen Area
Instead of applying for asylum in the first EU country of entry, as prescribed by current EU regulations, many undocumented migrants attempt to travel further within the European Union to reach richer countries and apply for asylum there.

According to the EU border agency Frontex, over 340,000 refugees and migrants illegally crossed the European Union's external borders between January and July 2015, which is three times higher than during the same period in the previous year.
