The Supreme Commander of the Libyan Armed Forces issued a decree on Tuesday prohibiting access to the war-hit North African country to citizens of Iran, Yemen and Pakistan, on top of other nationals, citing security concerns.

CAIRO, (Sputnik) — Gen. Khalifa Haftar said in a statement, published Tuesday, that the decision aimed at maintaining "security and stability in the country."

Libya has been in a state of turmoil since the overthrow of longtime leader Muammar Gaddafi in 2011 and is now split into two rival camps.

The internationally-recognized authority in eastern Libya, which controls only a part of the country, fears that foreign nationals have been swelling the ranks of Islamist militants that have their strongholds in the west of Libya.
