Mayor Cletus Moore, as well as his passenger Christopher Kosack, 39, were both arrested by Marion County deputies in Jefferson, and their vehicle was also towed for being uninsured.
The men told police they had been driving to Jefferson to purchase the drug, and the police report they had a small “user’s amount” of the drug on them.
Moore, who is the mayor of a tiny city of less than 140 people near Detroit Lake, also has two other convictions relating to methamphetamine possession that took place in 2009 and 2011.
Both men were later released and are set to appear in court on September 28. Their exact charges have not yet been made public, but they are said to be facing felonies.
Neither Idanha City Hall, nor the mayor, have yet commented on the matter.
