WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The Islamic State’s alleged use of a chemical "blistering agent" in Syria and Iraq is an abhorrent act that flagrantly violates international norms, State Department spokesperson Noel Clay told Sputnik.
"We [the United States] have seen the most recent reporting and allegations regarding use of chemicals as weapons by elements of ISIL [Islamic State] — in these instances, possibly a blistering agent — in Syria and Iraq," Clay said on Wednesday.
Given the alleged behavior of the Islamic State and other such groups in the region, Clay noted, "any such flagrant disregard for international standards and norms is reprehensible."
