WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — President Barack Obama and senior administration officials have continuously vilified US police officers, presidential candidate Ted Cruz stated in a press release.
"We are seeing a manifestation of the rhetoric and vilification of law enforcement that is coming from the top — all the way to the President of the United States and senior administration officials," Cruz said on Wednesday.
Cruz argued that senior officials, including the US Attorney General Loretta Lynch, have systematically assaulted police officers in cities such as Ferguson and Baltimore to the detriment of overall security.
"That is fundamentally wrong, and it is endangering the safety and security of us all," he added.
The United States has seen multiple protests prompted by high-profile cases of police brutality and killing of unarmed civilians over the past year.
In recent months, the US Department of Justice has launched numerous probes into incidents of police brutality mostly against African-Americans in Baltimore, Ferguson and most recently, Charleston.
The initiatives include investing in body-worn cameras for police and agencies across the United States, and a plan for addressing segregation in neighborhoods.
While calling for changes, the White House and the Justice Department have repeatedly expressed gratitude to US police for their service.
