ISIL Uses Chemical Weapons to Make Up for Defeats in Iraq, Syria - Lawmaker
ISIL militants use chemical weapons in Iraq and Syria as a desperate measure to make up for their defeats, a deputy of Kurdistan Alliance in the Iraqi parliament told Sputnik Arabic.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Islamic State (ISIL) militants use chemical weapons in Iraq and Syria as a desperate measure to make up for their defeats, a deputy of Kurdistan Alliance in the Iraqi parliament told Sputnik Arabic.
"The fact that ISIL uses the chemical weapons signifies that they are desperate and weak," Zana Said said.
2 September 2015, 19:21 GMT
The extremist group used chlorine gas at Makhmur front and at Mosul Dam in the Iraqi northern Nineveh province, in the western Iraq's Anbar province and in the village of Qwer, Said added.
According to Said, the militants may have obtained the weapon when they seized arsenals in military camps in Iraq and Syria.
The ISIL jihadist group, in control of large territories in Iraq and Syria, has been repeatedly accused of using chemical weapons.
On Tuesday, the ISIL reportedly used chemicals during an attack on the northeastern Syrian town of Marea.
