Gazprom head Alexey Miller said that negotiations between Russia and China on the planned Power of Siberia-2 pipeline are going on schedule.

BEIJING (Sputnik) — Russia and China expect to sign a deal on the planned Power of Siberia-2 pipeline, also known as the western route, in the spring of 2016, Gazprom head Alexey Miller said Thursday.

"[Negotiations] on the western route are going on schedule. As for all major technical issues, they have been agreed upon. The only question remaining is commercial," Miller told reporters.

"Of course, the deal could be signed sooner," he added.

Russia, China Sign Memorandum on Gas Supplies From Far East
The first Power of Siberia pipeline, projected to deliver an annual 61 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas from Russia to China via an eastern route, is expected to go on-line in 2019.

Power of Siberia-2 envisions the delivery of 30 bcm at its first stage.

"We must understand that there are advantages to western route negotiations in comparison to the eastern route, but there are certain points that differ from the eastern corridor of our deliveries," Miller noted.

Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed an agreement on the basic conditions of gas supplies in May this year.
