MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Two VICE News journalists from the United Kingdom, arrested on charges of aiding a terrorist organization, have been released, Today’s Zaman newspaper reported Thursday.
Correspondent Jake Hanrahan and cameraman Philip Pendlebury were detained on August 27 in the southwestern Turkish province of Diyarbakir, while filming clashes between Turkish security forces and Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) militants, considered a terrorist organization by Turkey.
According to the Turkish government, the journalists did not have the proper media credentials to film the clashes.
Media reports suggested that the two British men had been charged with helping the Islamic State militant group and been moved to a distant prison in the country.
