MOSCOW (Sputnik) — French authorities should take in 200,000 refugees and migrants from Iraq and Syria amid the unraveling European migrant crisis, French Senator Nathalie Goulet said Thursday.
“France should take in 200,000 Syrians and Iraqis… I call for the associations of volunteers and for those who are able to accept refugees to do so,” Goulet wrote in the Huffington Post news portal opinions column.
A major migrant crisis is currently taking place in Europe, as tens of thousands of migrants fleeing war-torn regions in the Middle East and North Africa, are attempting to find asylum in the European Union.
Ministers of Internal Affairs of the EU countries are expected to discuss to the European Commission's proposal for a permanent scheme of distribution of refugees on September 14. The proposed permanent and binding scheme was originally intended to be introduced towards the end of 2015.
