MOSCOW (Sputnik) — India has accused Pakistan of breaking the ceasefire in the border state of Jammu and Kashmir after a soldier was injured, local media reported Saturday citing a defense spokesman.
"Pakistani troops violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing in Krishna Ghati sector of Poonch district around 07:45 hours [02:15 AM GMT]," a spokesman said as quoted by the NDTV television channel, adding that a soldier was wounded.
According to the media outlet, Pakistan also violated the ceasefire Friday evening, firing small rounds and mortar shells at the border posts.
The Jammu and Kashmir region has been disputed by India and Pakistan since the end of British rule in 1947. Following several armed conflicts, the two countries agreed to a ceasefire in 2003. Since then, both sides have repeatedly blamed each other for violating the truce.
