International Space Station astronaut Kjell Lindgren struck photography gold earlier this week when he captured a picture of a lightning strike on Earth, which lit up the solar panels of the International Space Station.

Lindgren took the picture when the ISS was flying over the Pacific Ocean, and later uploaded it to his Twitter account.
"I’m inspired by the opportunity to explore — to experience the Earth and moon from a unique perspective," says the US astronaut, who arrived at the ISS with astronauts Oleg Kononenko from Russia and Kimiya Yui from Japan aboard a Soyuz rocket which arrived at the ISS after six hours of space travel.

Kjell Lindgren, Oleg Kononenko and Kimiya Yui left for space aboard the Soyuz on July 22.
The three members of ISS expedition 44 were launched into space from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on July 22, and will return to Earth in November.

Fellow astronaut Kimiya Yui has also tweeted weather phenomena from the ISS, including the eye of hurricane Jimena, a powerful hurricane which was east of Hawaii in the Pacific Ocean. At its strongest on Saturday Jimena reached category four intensity, with sustained winds of 220 km/h (140 mph).
