The strike, the 13th industrial action of pilots of Lufthansa and its subsidiaries in 18 months, is set to affect all passenger flights on A380, A330 / 340 and B747 aircraft and all cargo operations from Germany, according to VC.
VC and Lufthansa were unable to reach an agreement on pay and issues related to the optimization of company’s business, which has led to job losses.

The cuts to Lufthansa's budget are part of a cost optimization program the company is pursuing in response to strong competition in various regions, particularly from low cost carriers.
In 2014, the company lost around 232 million euro ($250 million), or almost one quarter of its operating profit, because of pilot strikes.
