"During a telephone conversation, [US Secretary of State John] Kerry asked for specifics from [Russian Foreign Minister Sergei] Lavrov regarding Russian aid to the Syrian government in the fight against terrorism," Zakharova told RIA Novosti.
According to Zakharova, "Lavrov confirmed that this type of aid has always been provided and is being provided and that Russia has never concealed that it is providing military equipment to the official Syrian authorities with the aim of fighting terrorism."
On Friday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said at the Eastern Economic Forum that Russia has already been providing Damascus with "fairly strong support with technology and the training of military servicemen," adding that it was "too early" to discuss Russia's direct military action against ISIL.
Russia has been engaged in international efforts to find a political solution to the ongoing conflict in Syria, as well as providing humanitarian aid to the people of the conflict-torn country. In August, Syrian President Bashar Assad said that he highly appreciated Russia's assistance, and was sure Moscow had proved its firm position in supporting Damascus.
