NEW YORK (Sputnik) — An aide to New York State Governor Andrew Cuomo is fighting for his life after being shot during a Monday morning shootout in New York City, Mayor Bill de Blasio said in a statement on Tuesday.
"This young man is fighting for his life right now," de Blasio stated. "A good young man who is giving back through his life to his community, but right now, he is clinging to life because of senseless gun violence."
Gabay is currently being treated at Kings County Hospital and remains in critical condition.
De Blasio blamed the shooting on lenient gun control laws throughout the United States and pledged to continue to fight for stricter laws.
"We will use all out tools to stop these guns from getting into the hands of those who would do violence to good and law abiding people," de Blasio said.
The West Indian parade went on as scheduled.
