WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Clinton stated that if she was elected president in 2016, she would take whatever action to protect the United States and its allies from threats ot their national security.
"Here’s my message to Iran's leaders: the United States will never allow you to acquire a nuclear weapon," Clinton said at the Brooking Institution in Washington, DC.
"I will not hesitate to take military action if Iran attempts to obtain a nuclear weapon," she added.
Moreover, Clinton vowed she would ensure her successor would make the same pledge, and make it clear that Washington’s commitment would "not waiver depending on who’s in office."
Clinton’s remarks come as US lawmakers are set to decide by September 17 whether to approve the Iran nuclear agreement, which guarantees the peaceful nature of Tehran’s nuclear program in exchange for sanctions relief.
