NEW YORK (Sputnik) — "Appellant’s brief must be filed on or before September 9," according to court documents.
On September 1, Yaroshenko’s lead attorney Alexei Tarasov told Sputnik that the necessary paperwork will be submitted on time.
"We will submit it on the ninth," Tarasov said.
Yaroshenko was detained in Liberia in 2010 during a US sting operation conducted in West Africa. He was then transferred to the United States, where the US authorities charged and sentenced him to 20 years in jail for allegedly smuggling cocaine.
Russian authorities have repeatedly expressed concern over the circumstances of Yaroshenko's arrest and the conditions of his detention.
