MOSCOW (Sputnik) — On Wednesday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker called on the EU members states to relocate a total of 160,000 migrants throughout the bloc over the next two years. According to Juncker's plan, Romania is expected to take in 6,351 refugees.
“I am dissatisfied with the European Commission’s announcement,” Iohannis said, as quoted by the local Ziarul Financiar newspaper.
The president added that the European Commission's decision would not lead to the settlement of the crisis.
“I do not consider it appropriate to talk about a compulsory quota, calculated in a very bureaucratic way, I would say, without consulting with the [EU] member states,” Iohannis said.
On Monday, the Romanian authorities said that the country was ready to accept no more than 1,785 refugees.
