A member of the European Parliament from Germany claims that the demographic ‘meltdown’ caused by migration will have economic repercussions in the European Union.

MOSCOW (Sputnik), Daria Chernyshova – The demographic ‘meltdown’ caused by migration will have economic repercussions in the European Union, a member of the European Parliament from Germany told Sputnik on Thursday.

"Europe is facing a demographic meltdown as the indigenous populations are being replaced with Third World people… This will result in an economic catastrophe," Udo Voigt said.

The National Democratic Party of Germany lawmaker said the unprecedented migratory flow into Europe that exacerbated this summer would also reverberate in other fields.

"It is also a cultural and principal problem if one considers the diversity of the world to be a treasure which must be preserved, which I indeed believe it is," Voigt stressed.

On Wednesday, European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker called on the EU members states to relocate a total of 160,000 migrants throughout the bloc over the next two years.

Juncker said most of the 500,000 migrants who have crossed into Europe this year came from Syria, Libya and Eritrea.

The United Nations estimated recently that 850,000 migrants from the Middle East will seek refuge in Europe in the next two years.
