India Sentences 12 People Over 2006 Train Bomb Attacks

MOSCOW (Sputnik) — A court in the western Indian city of Mumbai, on Friday, convicted 12 men for their roles in the 2006 deadly bomb attacks on local trains, media reported.

The men were found guilty of conspiring to carrying out the blasts, which killed almost 190 people and injured more than 800, nine years ago, OneIndia News portal reported. One of the accused was acquitted.

On July 11, 2006, a total of seven blasts, caused by explosive nitroamine bombs kept in pressure cookers, went off in the first class compartments of several Mumbai commuter trains.

All 13 people arrested in connection to the case are allegedly members of the outlawed Students Islamic Movement of India (SIMI) organization, according to earlier media reports.
