The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) Rapporteurs stated that it is essential for the stability and further development of Ukraine to admit all political forces to local elections.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) – The Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe’s (PACE) Rapporteurs for Ukraine urged Ukrainian authorities on Friday to ensure that upcoming local elections in the country are “inclusive and pluralistic.”

“This is essential for the stability and further development of the country,” Jean-Claude Mignon and Jordi Xucla said, as cited in the press release on the PACE website.

European Parliament to Monitor Local Elections in Ukraine

According to the statement, the rapporteurs intend to visit the country in the near future to familiarize themselves with the constitutional reform process and follow the upcoming elections.

Ukraine is expected to hold parliamentary elections on October 25. Ukraine’s eastern Donetsk and Luhansk breakaway regions plan to hold local elections on October 18 and November 1 respectively.

President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has previously said that Donetsk and Luhansk should abandon holding local elections stipulated in the Minsk peace agreement.
