CAIRO(Sputnik) — Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Sisi ordered Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Sherif Ismail on Saturday to form the new government, local media reported.
Ismail has to form the new cabinet as a prime minister within a week, the Egyptian al-Ahram newspaper said.
Earlier in the day, Sisi accepted the resignation of the Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab's cabinet, but asked the government to remain in a caretaker role until a new cabinet is formed.
The resignation came amid a corruption scandal, which involved the arrest of Egyptian Minister of Agriculture Selah Helal for accepting bribes.
