VIENNA (Sputnik) — Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban expressed his support for Germany’s decision to introduce border controls, the Bild newspaper reported Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, German Interior Minister Thomas de Maiziere confirmed that Germany is introducing temporary border controls in an attempt to cope with the influx of refugees from war-torn regions of the Middle East and North Africa.
"We fully understand the German decision and express our full solidarity," Orban stated, as cited by the media.
Hungary is expected to enforce a package of tighter immigration laws on Tuesday, in a bid to control the growing flow of refugees hoping to reach Western Europe.
Budapest estimates that some 172,000 refugees and migrants have entered the country since the beginning of 2015.
