MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Poland will impose controls on its borders with EU member states if it feels its security is threatened, Polish Prime Minister Ewa Kopacz said Monday.
This comes as EU interior and foreign ministers are holding an emergency meeting in Brussels, in a bid to agree a common response to the deteriorating migrant crisis in Europe. Earlier in the day, Kopacz discussed the situation with her ministers.
Poland, as well as some other Eastern European countries, earlier defied the European Commission-proposed quotas for relocating the surging flow of asylum seekers from Syria and elsewhere in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
On Sunday, Germany imposed border controls with Austria after record numbers of refugees arrived in its southern state of Bavaria over the past week.
