BRUSSELS (Sputnik) — The European Union is concerned about the rising flow of undocumented migrants from the Balkans as it continues to struggle with tens of thousands of refugees fleeing conflicts in the Middle East, a diplomatic source in Brussels said.
"The influx of Balkan migrants has surged since this spring and exceeded since early June the number of migrants coming from across the sea," the source told RIA Novosti.
EU interior ministers are currently holding an emergency meeting in Brussels to discuss common approaches to tackling the worsening migrant crisis.
The International Organization for Migration estimates that over 430,000 refugees, predominantly from Syria and Afghanistan, have come ashore in Europe since the start of 2015.
