WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — A third of Americans consider China to be a very significant threat to the United States, a new poll by CNN/ORC International revealed on Monday.
The poll showed 33 percent of respondents see China as a “very serious threat” to the United States, compared to 18 percent who said so in April 2015.
Moreover, 40 percent of US citizens said that China is a “moderately serious threat” to the country compared to 36 percent in April.
The poll was conducted on September 4-8 by telephone among 1,012 adult Americans.
In recent months, Washington has blamed Beijing for launching a massive cyberattack against the US Office of Personnel Management, which compromised the personal data of more than 21 million current and former government employees.
US President Barack Obama is expected to press Chinese President Xi Jinping on the country’s cyber activities as well as recent economic slowdown during his visit to Washington scheduled for September.
