Eric Draitser, an independent geopolitical analyst and editor of Stopimperialism.org, spoke to Sputnik about how Turkey has been the driving force behind the migrant crisis with Turkish intelligence facilitating migrants’ transfer to Europe.

According to Tony Cartalucci, a columnist for New Eastern Outlook journal, Washington has staged the migrant crisis in Europe to create a pretext to start a military operation against Syria.

His article, titled “Social Engineering 101: How to Make a Refugee Crisis,” says that Washington had started to pave the way for the Arab spring revolutions in 2007.

Though the US achieved success in Libya, Cartalucci emphasizes that Washington’s plans did not go smoothly across the region. Egypt and Syria turned out to be “die hard” rivals that managed to resist Western proxy forces.

As a result, Washington decided to resort to another mechanism and create a migrant crisis for its European allies. According to the US’ plans, this migrant crisis would create a necessary and justified pretext for military build-up in Syria.

“I think there is definitely something to be said for that, although I wouldn’t go so far as to say that it was staged by the United States. Perhaps there is a sort of unofficial understanding between the US intelligence and Turkish authorities but I think ultimately it is Turkey that is the driving force behind this change because it is really a change in Turkish policy,” Draitser told Sputnik.

He went on to elaborate that as a member of NATO, Turkey is within the grander western agenda that is destabilizing Syria and using the refugee crisis in order to achieve that because what Turkey is really interested in is destabilizing the country by draining it of human capital. “Turkey is doing this by providing an open door policy for refugees, nearly 2 million in Turkey, and using Turkish intelligence to facilitate their transit to Europe.”

Draitser told Sputnik that there is documented evidence of Turkish intelligence being involved in collaboration with Al-Nusra front and Islamic State. It has come out in Turkish courts and press which are now being targeted by Erdogan’s government.

“What we have is international collusion going on here. To what extent it is directed by the US or Turkey or whether it is collaboration of the two, that is up for debate.”

The analyst said that in June 2012, the New York Times documented that US CIA officers and intelligence operatives were working with the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood and Turkish intelligence along the border in Turkey to facilitate the  transit of terrorists into Syria to wage war against Assad.

“Reuters also documented a terrorist training center near Adana, close to NATO installations,” Draitser elaborated.

In regards to a resolution of this crisis, the analyst said that Turkey needs to end the financing of terrorism and then the war in Syria will cease to be as they are the primary instigators of this conflict. “The refugee crisis is a direct product of US and western interventions in the region whether it is Libya, Syria or even Afghanistan you have all of these refugees that are victims of US and NATO imperialism throughout the region.”

Draitser said, “That is the argument that Russia has made that you cannot address the refugee crisis until you address the issue of international terrorism in Syria, Iraq and beyond. Till that is addressed you will continue to see this crisis.”
