UNITED NATIONS (Sputnik) — On September 12, the UN Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) received an allegation of sexual abuse committed by its civilian staff. MINUSCA reported about this case to local authorities and launched an inquiry.
"There are currently seventeen allegations of sexual exploitation and abuse by UN personnel in the CAR that have been reported to MINUSCA," the statement said.
The statement said that the majority of these allegations were against military personnel of the UN mission since 2013.
Over 10,000 UN peacekeepers are in the CAR tasked with stopping the violence between Muslim Seleka rebels and Christian militias that erupted in late 2012.
