In an interview with the BBC this past weekend Elton John said he wanted to meet Putin to discuss the matter.
The veteran singer, who has two sons with his husband David Furnish, spoke out after bringing up the issue of human rights and tolerance, including in Ukraine, at the Yalta European Strategy forum in Kiev, RIA Novosti reported.
The Rocket Man singer wrote on his Instagram: “Thank-you to President Vladimir Putin for reaching out and speaking via telephone with me today.”
He also suggested that a one-on-one meeting with the Russian leader had already been scheduled, saying: “I look forward to meeting with you face-to-face to discuss LGBT equality in Russia.”
The Kremlin has yet to comment on the RIA Novosti report.
