Death, poverty and religiously motivated massacres caused by US and NATO's military interventions in the Middle East and beyond have led to an unprecedented influx of refugees, which can only be stopped if "reckless" foreign military engagements are brought to an end, Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten reported.

The latest wave of refugees comes primarily from countries ravaged by war in the last two decades, including former Yugoslavia, Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, Ethiopia and Somalia.

"It is telling that illegal military interventions carried out by the United States or its allies took place in almost all of the abovementioned states. This suggests that these wars are the key reason for the mass migration. They meant death, poverty, anarchy, disintegration of societies, religiously motivated massacres and exodus," the German media outlet noted.

The influx of refugees shocked many European nations prompting swift responses like introducing border controls or building walls. According to Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten, these measures will not help.

"We can try to build walls to defend our wealth. But in the long-run these walls will not hold against millions," the publication noted.

The solution lies in dealing with the root cause of the problem.

"Those, who want to stop mass migration, need to prevent reckless foreign military interventions from happening," Deutsche Wirtschafts Nachrichten stated. They must also turn military alliance like NATO into purely defensive blocs, the media outlet added.
