WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Raul Castro will address the United Nations (UN) for the first time in late September during the annual gathering of world leaders, according to media reports.
Castro will speak at the UN gathering on September 28, which is the same day US President Barack Obama is set to address the UN, WSVN News Miami/Fort Lauderdale reported on Tuesday.
The United States and Cuba began normalizing relations following the initiative of US President Barack Obama in December 2014.
More than 160 leaders are set to attend the UN gathering in September, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and, for the first time, Chinese President Xi Jinping.
