HORGOS (Serbia), (Sputnik) – The migrants at the Horgos-Roszke border checkpoint are encamped several feet outside a border fence Hungarian forces have reinforced with extra barbed wire.

Hungary sealed off its southern border with Serbia from midnight into Tuesday morning after strict new border control measures became law. Around 5,000 migrants gathered at a neutral area on the border following the new law’s enactment.

Clashes with security forces broke out Wednesday afternoon on the Hungarian-Serbian border, in which at least 30 police officers and 150 migrants were injured. Twenty-nine activist migrants have been arrested, after which Hungary requested Serbia’s assistance to control the crowds.
