ULAN BATOR (Sputnik) – Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko extended sanctions on almost 400 individuals and 105 entities from Russia and other countries late Wednesday, saying the move would contribute to Ukraine’s defense amid the ongoing military conflict in the southeast of the country.
Russia’s relations with the West have deteriorated greatly amid the Ukrainian crisis. The United States, the European Union and their allies have imposed several rounds of sanctions on Russia, accusing Moscow of alleged involvement in Ukraine's internal conflict. Russia has repeatedly refuted the accusations.
"We ask the international community to continue imposing sanctions against some Russian state companies and semi-state companies… Also we ask the international community to keep sanctions against some people who are responsible for starting this war in Europe," Ihor Popov told reporters.
