LONDON (Sputnik) — Far-leftist Corbyn won the leadership election of the UK Labour Party on September 12 after obtaining over 59 percent of votes in the first round.
“The significance of the [Corbyn’s] election cannot be overestimated… It is nothing less than a drastic change in the British politics of the last 30 years,” Yakovenko said in an interview with Rossiya and NTV TV channels on Thursday.
He added that previously country’s establishment assumed that it had been acting in the times without a choice in social and economic spheres and in foreign policy.
During his political career, Corbyn had voted against Britain’s participation in the Iraq war, criticized ex-Labour leader Miliband for too much austerity, and had repeatedly spoke out against renewing the British Trident nuclear deterrent infrastructure.
