Poroshenko Removes Ban For Western Journalists, Others Still Blacklisted
KIEV (Sputnik) – Poroshenko signed off on the most recent version of the Ukrainian sanction list, which includes over 40 journalists and bloggers from the United Kingdom, Germany, Spain, among other countries, on Wednesday.

The decree, effective at the time of publication, lifted a one-year travel ban and asset freezes against three British, two Spanish and one German journalists.

The latest decision affects BBC correspondents Emma Wells, Steve Rosenberg and cameraman Anton Chicherov; Spain’s Antonio Pampliega and Angel Sastre, who were among a group of journalists presumably kidnapped in Syria this summer; as well as Germany’s Michael Rutz.

Ukrainian Blacklist Likely to Stay 'Until Poroshenko’s Government Leaves'
Poroshenko’s decree comes a day after his press secretary tweeted the removal of British, German and Spanish journalists from the list.

On Thursday, officials began revising the newly-introduced blacklist of some 388 state officials, politicians and journalists and up to 100 legal entities, ahead of its enactment.

Groups like the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe, the International Federation of Journalists, Reporters Without Borders and the Committee to Protect Journalists condemned Kiev’s blacklisting as a violation of freedom of the press.

Russian, Swiss, Israeli, Polish and Latvian journalists and bloggers remain on the new expanded sanction list.
