WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — Albright explained that Syria is an area where the United States and Russia "can and should work together."
However, she advised "it would be a big mistake" to forget about US grievances over Ukraine.
"I think that we should work with Russia on Syria, but we cannot forget what the Russians have done in Ukraine," Albright said on Friday of potential US-Russian cooperation.
Washington has repeatedly accused Russia of violating international norms and interfering in the ongoing civil conflict in Ukraine. The United States, along with the European Union, has implemented several rounds of economic sanctions against Russia based off the claims of misconduct.
In the past two days, top US and Russian officials have had significant contact over the security situation in Syria. Reports from both Washington and Moscow have indicated that Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Barack Obama may meet next week at the United Nations General Assembly to discuss the matter.
