ATHENS (Sputnik) — Alexis Tsipras, the former Greek prime minister and one of the main candidates in the snap parliamentary elections, is currently meeting with the young supporters of the left-wing Syriza party, a Sputnik correspondent reported Saturday.
In Greece, there is a tradition for political parties’ leaders to invite reporters and some of their supporters to have a drink or dinner together a day before the parliamentary elections.
Tsipras has also decided to adhere to the tradition, choosing the Six D.o.g.s cafe in Athens.
Tsipras is very active in communication with his supporters and replies to questions with readiness.
The meeting is due to last for about an hour.
Greek voters will elect a new legislature on September 20, as Tsipras resigned from the post of prime minister in August and called for snap elections to gain support for austerity reforms he backed to receive financial support from international creditors and keep the country in the eurozone.
