Palestinians Clash With Jerusalem Police Near al-Aqsa Mosque
CAIRO (Sputnik) — The Israeli government has to end violence at al-Aqsa mosque in East Jerusalem’s Temple Mount complex, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah Sisi said Saturday.

"We demand that the Israeli government undertake serious action to resolve the crisis, take responsibility and put an end to the daily desecration of the noble sanctuary [Al-Aqsa Mosque], take immediate and effective measures for this," Sisi said at a joint press conference with European Council President Donald Tusk.

Further escalation of tensions at the Temple Mount could have serious consequences for peace and stability in the region, Sisi added.

Clashes between Palestinians and Israeli police at the Temple Mount started last week, after police conducted a late-night security operation search for hidden explosives in East Jerusalem. The raid resulted in the pursuit of several young Arab suspects who fled in the direction of the mosque before barricading themselves inside.
