ST.PETERSBURG (Sputnik) — Russian energy company Gazprom will discuss a pre-trial settlement with Margrethe Vestager, the European Commissioner in charge of competition policy, for antitrust claims against the company, the Deputy Chairman of Gazprom said Monday.
“We have sent our proposal for the settlement of the claims that had been formally brought against Gazprom. And in the nearest future we will hold a discussion with Ms. Vestager to find an extrajudicial solution,” Alexander Medvedev told reporters.
In April, the European Commission confirmed it had filed formal antitrust charges against Gazprom, accusing the company of EU antitrust legislation violation and abuse of its market position. Gazprom has repeatedly denied the claims.
Gazprom is the world’s largest natural gas producer and key gas supplier to many states in Central and Eastern Europe.
