WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — China’s behavior in cyber space is a crucial factor in the development of US-China relations, US National Security Advisor Susan Rice stated on Monday.
"Cyber-enabled espionage that targets personal and corporate information for the economic gain of businesses undermines our long-term economic cooperation and it needs to stop," Rice said in a speech at George Washington University.
She noted that China’s cyber espionage puts "enormous strain" on the two countries’ bilateral relations, and remains a "critical factor in determining the future trajectory of US-China ties."
Rice’s statement came amid preparations for the first visit by Chinese President Xi Jinping to Washington, DC scheduled for September 25.
On Thursday, Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Zheng Zeguang stated that China is ready to work with the United States to resolve cybersecurity disputes.
