WASHINGTON (Sputnik) — The United States and India will work to achieve the $500 billion trade goal, US Secretary of State John Kerry said on Tuesday.
“I think we have plans to advance our relationship to a $500 billion goal of economic exchange,” Kerry said.
Kerry, Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj, US Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker, and US Secretary of Energy Ernie Moniz are currently holding a "very in-depth discussion" about the two countries' economic and security agenda.
Swaraj arrived in Washington, DC to launch the US-India Strategic and Commercial Dialogue that has been designed to boost commercial ties between the two countries.
Kerry said the United States and India are discussing a number of issues, including counterterrorism, maritime security and the disputed territory in South China Sea.
The secretary of state added that US President Barack Obama is looking forward to meeting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the UN General Assembly next week.
