MOSCOW (Sputnik) — Missile divisions from the Russian Pacific Fleet's Kamchatka Coast Guard have successfully carried out live-fire exercises, a spokesman for the Russian Defense Ministry's Eastern Military District said Wednesday.
"The Redut and Rubezh missile battalions and the Kamchatka Coast Guard’s technical units have conducted field firing at the determined targets in the Pacific Ocean," Capt. 1st Rank Roman Martov told journalists.
According to the defense ministry, about 40 units of military and special-purpose equipment and over 500 military personnel took part in the military exercise.
The Pacific Fleet, based in Russia's Far East, is one of five Russian fleets. A recent Russian Maritime Doctrine amendment lists the Pacific region as an area of increased strategic importance to Russia.
